Family Day of PLAY

More than 8000 individuals took part in the 2nd Annual Family Day of PLAY event on February 17. This Grey Bruce wide challenge, originally launched in 2011 as the Shortest Day of PLAY in December, encourages residents to increase their physical activity levels.

The top three municipalities earning the highest number of PLAY hours, by percentage of population, were Arran-Elderslie (27.7%), Brockton (20.3%) and Hanover (16.9%). The top three finishers will receive trophies to display in their municipality for the duration of 2014.

“Despite the cold temperatures, families made time to be active” said Jason Weppler, Health Promoter at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “The local municipalities also played a significant role by organizing free events throughout the day.”

The Bruce Grey PLAY Network thanks all those who participated and submitted their physical activity hours on-line. Awards presentations for the three winning municipalities will be scheduled this spring.
