Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) serves a population of approximately 35,000 residents in the second fastest growing township in Ontario. The hospital’s community includes the Town of Strathroy, a bustling urban centre of 12,500 with a vibrant downtown of quaint shops, restaurants and services. Surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, Strathroy is home to many London and Sarnia commuters and offers small town life amenities: a pleasant walk to many beautiful parks and nature trails; a strong sense of community; a mix of gracious century homes and modern housing; good schools and shopping. The hospital is only a short drive to London, Sarnia and the beautiful beaches of Lake Huron.

SMGH is a full service family-centred community hospital providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic and ambulatory services, as well as both primary and secondary care.

The hospital operates 54 acute care beds along with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and outpatient services. Medical staffing includes a number of active local family physicians, internists, surgeons and specialists. Total staffing for the hospital including full-time and part-time staff is approximately 500.


Position:  Occupational Therapist

Region:  London and Middlesex

Description:  The Middlesex Hospital Alliance is seeking a casual, part-time Occupational Therapist to practice responsibilities within the Rehabilitation Department at their Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital site.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for OT services to the outpatient hand clinic at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, as well as inpatient OT support for Middlesex Hospital Alliance. Must be available for 4- and 7.5-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. This position is available immediately. 

Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current membership with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Membership in the Canadian Occupational Therapy Association preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in hand therapy and splinting in an acute care setting (preferred).
  • Experience treating acute plastic and orthopedic hand conditions preferred
  • Current BCLS registration
  • Self-directed with demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Committed team player
  • Ability to plan and organize assigned caseload and specific treatment programs
  • Able to assign tasks to other team members, as required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and public
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing and clinical education
  • Develop a commitment to evidence-based practice and respond positively to change
  • Basic Computer Skills in a Windows environment, including Outlook and Microsoft Word
  • Demonstrated excellence in attendance
  • Possess a valid Class G driver’s license

If successful, you must provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox) and proof of 2 COVID-19 vaccinations . You will also be required to provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing within the previous 12 months.
