Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) serves a population of approximately 35,000 residents in the second fastest growing township in Ontario. The hospital’s community includes the Town of Strathroy, a bustling urban centre of 12,500 with a vibrant downtown of quaint shops, restaurants and services. Surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, Strathroy is home to many London and Sarnia commuters and offers small town life amenities: a pleasant walk to many beautiful parks and nature trails; a strong sense of community; a mix of gracious century homes and modern housing; good schools and shopping. The hospital is only a short drive to London, Sarnia and the beautiful beaches of Lake Huron.

SMGH is a full service family-centred community hospital providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic and ambulatory services, as well as both primary and secondary care.

The hospital operates 54 acute care beds along with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and outpatient services. Medical staffing includes a number of active local family physicians, internists, surgeons and specialists. Total staffing for the hospital including full-time and part-time staff is approximately 500.

CASUAL PART-TIME REGISTERED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST

As part of the inter-professional team, the Registered Respiratory Therapist plays an essential role in providing quality and patient/family centered care. The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides therapeutic and diagnostic services to patients with compromised cardio-respiratory status and related conditions.

Rate of Pay: $39.501 – $54.878

Job Duties:

  • The Respiratory Therapist will provide care to patients and support to the health care team within multiple departments including; Pulmonary Function Lab, ICU, Acute Medicine, Endoscopy Program, Surgical Inpatients, Perioperative Care, and the Emergency Department
  • Travel to Four Counties Health Services as needed
  • Position Available Immediately

Job Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy
  • Current general registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • Current ACLS certification preferred
  • Current NRP certification preferred
  • Neonatal and pediatric experience preferred
  • Recent 2 years experience within an adult acute care setting
  • Demonstrated skills and ability in ECG interpretations, pressure monitoring, airway management and mechanical ventilation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in adult oral endotracheal intubation, adult arterial blood gas sampling, and adult tracheostomy management and care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the respiratory care, support and critical care management of adult critical care patients
  • Demonstrated knowledge and maintenance of respiratory, resuscitation and anesthesia related equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge, assessment and perform pulmonary function testing
  • Experience with administration of conscious sedation preferred 
  • Experience assessing and monitoring patient vitals signs and ETCO2 during procedures preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and vascular access
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and self-directed learning
  • Demonstrated ability to assess concurrent demands, set priorities, organize work and maintain accuracy and concentration during periods of high activity
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as an active member of the health care team
  • Demonstrated excellence in attendance
  • Understanding and use of good body mechanics
  • Cerner experience required, as well as basic computer skills in a Windows environment


Salary:  Based on proven experience
