Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) serves a population of approximately 35,000 residents in the second fastest growing township in Ontario. The hospital’s community includes the Town of Strathroy, a bustling urban centre of 12,500 with a vibrant downtown of quaint shops, restaurants and services. Surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, Strathroy is home to many London and Sarnia commuters and offers small town life amenities: a pleasant walk to many beautiful parks and nature trails; a strong sense of community; a mix of gracious century homes and modern housing; good schools and shopping. The hospital is only a short drive to London, Sarnia and the beautiful beaches of Lake Huron.

SMGH is a full service family-centred community hospital providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic and ambulatory services, as well as both primary and secondary care.

The hospital operates 54 acute care beds along with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and outpatient services. Medical staffing includes a number of active local family physicians, internists, surgeons and specialists. Total staffing for the hospital including full-time and part-time staff is approximately 500.


Position:  Accounts Receivable Clerk

Region:  London and Middlesex

Description:  The Middlesex Hospital Alliance is seeking a regular, part-time Accounts Receivable Clerk to practice responsibilities within the Finance Department at their Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital site. 

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of outgoing billings and incoming payments. The role represents the organization through direct interaction with patients, insurance companies, third party service providers and the Ontario Ministry of Health regarding billing and payment inquiries.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, record, and collect hospital revenues in a timely, professional, and pleasant manner
  • Maximize revenues and minimize delinquent accounts while maintaining excellent relationships with the hospital's internal and external customers, this will include initiating timely patient communication to secure payment or establish payment arrangements before accounts are forwarded to collections.
  • Support office operations through a variety of clerical tasks, including handling telephone communications and preparing accurate and timely outgoing mail.
  • Safeguard and reconcile the hospitals receivables on a monthly basis
  • Receive, control, and balance cash and bank deposits
  • Provide assistance to other members of the Finance team
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in an accounting environment, preferably including health care collections, cash handling, and bank deposit responsibilities.
  • Graduate of a Community College program with an emphasis on business-related courses; post-secondary accounting courses are preferred.
  • Medical Terminology training and experience with the Cerner system are considered assets.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with recent HRCM experience.
  • Experience with payment platforms considered an asset.
  • Experience with interprovincial, Ministry of Health, WSIB, and third-party billings considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in a Windows-based environment, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, computerized accounting systems, and keyboarding skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and multitasking abilities with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage difficult conversations in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment and adapt to changing work roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, balance competing priorities, and maintain a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated excellence in attendance and reliability.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be prepared to travel to the Four Counties Health Care Services site as required.
  • Understanding and demonstrated use of proper body mechanics.

If successful, you must provide vaccination records or proof of immunity for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chicken pox), as well as proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations. You will also be required to provide documentation of Tuberculosis skin testing completed within the previous 12 months.
