Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance was formed on July 1, 2003 as a partnership between Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital. We share a common management structure with one CEO. We have a commitment to partnership and common Mission, Vision and Values. The Alliance Board consists of both hospital boards combined. We look for opportunities to create and share services and programs across our two communities and to look for creative ways to link to our community partners.

The Listowel Memorial Hospital has been providing acute care and complex continuing care services to the residents of North Perth and the hospital’s catchment area since 1919. Our fully accredited hospital offers a wide range of primary and secondary services including 24-hour emergency services. In-patient and out-patient care, specialist clinics and supportive diagnostic services. The Hospital has an active staff of 10 Family Practitioners as well as several consultant staff.

Hospital services include:

  • Emergency, Operating Rooms, Diagnostic and Ambulatory Care Units (December 2007)
  • Maternal/Newborn Unit
  • Diabetes/Nutrition Counseling
  • Speech-Language
  • Physiotherapy
  • Breast Health Centre
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.

The Wingham and District Hospital is a modern, progressive acute care facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrical, paediatric, chronic and rehabilitation bed and other services, including 24-hour emergency coverage.

Hospital services include:

  • Emergency department with 24-hour on-call coverage
  • Rehabilitation department including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology
  • Multiple outpatient specialist clinics held on a regular basis to provide local service
  • Affiliation with London Regional Cancer Centre enabling chemotherapy treatment to be provided locally
  • Many community health related education programs
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.


Position:  Medical Laboratory Assistant

Region:  Huron and Perth

Description:  The Medical Lab Assistant is responsible for collecting blood samples from patients, cleaning and maintaining equipment and providing support service to the Lab.

This is a casual position that is anticipated to begin on July 6, 2026. The successful candidate will be available daily for 8- and 12-hour shifts, including evenings, holidays and weekends. Hours are subject to change.

Responsibilities: 

  • The lab assistant performs laboratory duties and/or procedures which requires adaptation of methods and procedures and a choice of methods and procedures
  • Collecting blood, performing ECG’s, set up and assisting with stress test
  • Problem solving minor equipment problems
  • Putting on, taking off and down loading loop monitors, heart monitors and blood pressure monitors
  • Frequent contacts with coworkers onsite and at alternate site, Physicians, suppliers and patients
  • Responding to Emergency codes
  • Responsibilities within blood banking process
  • Back entering results from referred out tests, ECG’s, and Pathologies.
  • Checking pending logs and acting on them if they are not back in a timely manner.
  • Order supplies for lab and for hospital
  • Answer phone, fax results, scanning, filing, typing, making appointments
  • Maintain and clean lab equipment
  • Performing QC on certain instruments
  • Lead, support or participate in key activities or action plans as identified on applicable Operational Plans.
  • Active member of applicable team/unit/department meetings and huddles.
  • Complete in department analyzer training
  • Operate analyzer
  • Package bio-hazard boxes

Qualifications: 

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent
  • Certified by examination by CSMLS and/or OSMT
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO) is preferred
  • 1-year previous hospital experience required
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort
  • Average degree of mental effort and analysis


Salary:  $34.94 - $37.36 per hour

Terms of Employment:  Casual
