We are viewed as a community leader in newcomer health, care of marginalized women, issues of health equity, client-led service development, and the advancement of partnerships that improve access to vital services for people who are at the margins in our community.

Position:  Medical Secretary

Region:  London and Middlesex

Description:  This position offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of newcomers and refugees, and those significantly marginalized by poverty, addiction, mental health, and housing issues. As the first point of contact for clients and visitors, the Medical Secretary maintains a welcoming reception area, responds to inquiries, coordinates appointments, and supports clinicians with administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations. The successful candidate should demonstrate compassion, professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality, with sensitivity to the barriers clients may face in accessing health care.

The compensation package: 

  • A starting salary range of $41,000 - $44,000
  • A Psychologically Safe and Inclusive Workplace
  • 100% employer-paid health & dental package, including up to $2,000/benefit year for mental health, $1,500 for massage therapy Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • Paid sick and personal time, plus vacation time starting at 3 weeks
  • Professional development time and funds

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Medical Office Assistant Diploma or experience working in a busy medical environment
  • Excellent communication skills and experience handling a busy multi-line telephone system
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of MS Office Products
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and prioritize competing demands with little supervision
  • Ability to work with marginalized people of diverse backgrounds with an inclusive and anti-oppressive lens

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (Telus Practice Solutions Suite); willing to train
  • Awareness and understanding of the social determinants of health; willing to train
  • French and other language skills are considered an asset in supporting the communities we serve


French Proficiency:  French an asset

Salary:  $41,000 - $44,000 annually

Terms of Employment:  Full-time
